If you were given the chance to live the most perfect life- a level 10 life in every area, what would that look like to you? Do you even know? The problem is that most of us wouldn't know the perfect life if it smacked us in the face. So today on the Rockstar Blog, we're going to talk about a tool that I use in coaching to gain clarity around what the perfect life looks like. It's called the wheel of life. Once you actually know WHAT the ideal life looks like for you, everything else flows. It's not frufru (is that the spelling?) spiritual, new age nonsense. It's just logic. If you don't put an address into a GPS, you may or may not get there. Same with life... and guns. If you fire without aiming, your chances of hitting the target are by chance only. That's called living by default.
I'm writing this blog in conjunction with my Nine Week Journal Series, which we launched this week. Designed specifically for Moms (don't worry girls, we're working on your's now!), this nine week series dives into one part of the wheel and asks the questions:
Where do you feel you are currently at in this particular area of your life?
What would level 10 look like in this area in of your life?
Each week, we email out one specific area of the wheel of life, so that you are hyper focused on that one piece and can think and make clear, well thought out decisions when the time comes. (This will even help our real estate clients gain clarity!) We've also designed a nine week affirmation series that corresponds with the journal series, to reprogram our minds with empowering thoughts and beliefs that serve to move us toward growth and away from stagnancy. That's right, it's time to get comfortable getting uncomfrotable. That's where the growth comes.
This is a truly transformational series, because it brings our awareness and focus to areas of our life that we rarely if ever think about. In my company, Keller Williams, we say "what you focus on expands". I've also heard it said this way: "where awareness goes, energy flows." How often do we actually think about where we're at in our marriages? How about in our spirituality? In our fun and recreation? The quality of the answer you receive is directly related to the quality of the questions you ask. In order to live our most ideal life, we have to get clear on two things:
1. Where we're at.
2. Where we're heading.
This makes the difference between living a life by design and a life by default. Do you have to gain clarity on your ideal life in order to be happy and fulfilled? No you don't, yet doing so will enable you to put things into position to ensure that you are living the life that you want to live. If you choose not to be purposeful with your life, you're simply leaving it up to chance. You've only got one life, and it's a journey, not a destination. The amazing part is that you get to create it.
Life is simply a result of the choices we make, not our circumstances. If you don't believe me, pick up a book on one of the most successful people in the world. I can guarantee he/she didn't start where they ended up. They were purposeful. We are either going to make choices purposefully or by default. Which will you choose? The ball is in your court, Rockstar.
The Affirmation Series
Once we begin to gain clarity around where are and where we want to be, there is a next step that we can very easily miss, if we're not careful. We must train our brains to think like a person who would live a level 10 life in that area. How do we do that? With affirmations.
Affirmations are deliberate statements of thought, which are designed to retrain our conscious and subconscious mind to turn those thoughts into beliefs. So many of us live life less than fulfilled because our thoughts sabotage us on a minute by minute basis. Henry Ford said "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right." The affirmation series helps us to form thoughts and beliefs that empower us to live the life that we desperately want to live.
"A woman who truly believes in herself is a magnificent thing to behold. She is more rare than tanzanite, and more powerful than a nuclear bomb."
When you connect deep self reflection with goal setting, and align your thoughts and beliefs to match who it is that you want to become, the result is magic. It is transformation at the deepest level. Here is the magic part of it: It comes from what is inside of YOU... not your mother or father or spouse or friends or anyone else's expectation. This is only about you. Your life is your own journey. No one else is going to live it for you, yet it is their expectations that (if we're not careful) shape our destiny. We mold and shape our lives to meet the expectations of others, instead of asking ourselves the questions: What does a fulfilled life look like to me if no one else's opinion matters.
I hope you'll take part in this Journal and Affirmation Series and quite frankly, I hope it changes you from the inside out.
